See a dr: You may have a pilar cyst( hair cyst) that may be trying to get infected . You may need a surgeon to drain or remove it.

I have a tender spot on the back of my head. What could be the cause?

Probably nothing: You have probably bumped or irritated the "spot" in some manner. Have someone look to see if there is anything visable. If not, give it a while. Remember, in medicine, something bad usually does not go away and gets worse and becomes apparent, if it goes away, it was nothing to start with.

I have a flat tender spot on the back of my head like where the swirl is what can this be?

Swelling: If you didn't injure the spot where the head is tender (bumped your head) then it is most likely some skin irritation. You could have an allergic response to some shampoo or other hair treatment. As long as you are not an infant, the skull is closed and it is only the scalp you are feeling. There are rare situations when the skull is not closed from birth, but you would have known about that.

Several things: This is a problem that requires a face-to-face meeting with your doctor. In that meeting, your doctor will listen to you, perform a throrough examination and possibly order labs or other tests. Based on this information, he/she will be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.

Pain : I cannot give you a definitive diagnosis but if it is intermittent and sharp it is probably muscular. However if it is dull and persistent you should see a physician and get a definitive diagnosis
