A member asked:

Can my regular doctors, not specialists, prescribe me antidepressants?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: In the U.S. If i recall correctly family physicians actually prescribe more antidepressants than specialists. This may not be bad since most patients show good responses, but there are risks of missing co-existing conditions if a good psychiatric or psychological assessment was not done, risk of reactions, and if it gets complicated or doesnt work, seeing a specialist is wise.
