Start with OTC: The worst headache of your life deserves a trip to the er. But otherwise over the counter meds work for many people. Tylenol (acetaminophen) works for me. Excedrin is also good. Of the nsaids naprosyn (alieve) is often preferred by neurologists. Severe headaches such as migraines my require prescription meds best advised by your primary dr. Try keeping a log of your headaches. It can help your dr help you.
