Can be a challenge: This can be a challenge at times. A molar tooth ache could cause referred pain up to the ear. It would be unusual for an ear infection/ear pain to cause referred pain down to the tooth. If there is any doubt - see a dentist or your local ent.

Tap your teeth: A tooth that is inflamed can produce pain, but that shows that the nerve inside the tooth is inflamed. Tapping on all of your teeth can often determine which one is inflamed. You can also take an ice cube and touch each tooth with the cube. If their is nerve inflammation causing the pain, the ice cube will identify which tooth is the culprit.
