Silicone: Mederma is less expensive and available, but works marginally in my experience. I prefer the silicone based products like biocorneum.

Probably silicone: They both can help but the best answer is the one that you use correctly. Mederma's instruction is to massage the cream on the scar about four times a day; no one really does this. Silicone solution has to be applied daily and allowed to dry. Silicone pads have to be held in place on the scar for months. Use the product that works best for your scar location and lifestyle.

Silicone: There are very few head to head studies on the different scar treatments. However, I have not been impressed with mederma. Several patients have reported skin irritation as well. The active ingredient is from onions. I feel the silicone products are better.
