OCPs vs.migraine tx: Oral contraception unless contraindicated may be an option, unless you have migraines that are flared up by periods or so called menstrual migraine. In that case, oral contaceptives (ocps) are contraindicated and migraine medications such as triptans (imitrex/zomig etc.) may be tried. Your doc should be able to help you with that, so don't delay a visit.

Migraines: Compared with other times in the menstrual cycle, a migraine is twice as likely to occur during the first 3 days of menstruation and 3 times as likely to be severe. There are several ways to treat start ibuprofen a day or so before the period, estrogen component of birth control may help, triptans when you get the headaches. There are some data to start magnesium 150 mg on 15th day of cycle.
