Time mostly: Other factors: good health, lower stress , good sex drive prior to pregnancy, support one has for new born & themselves. It may also depend on how long it takes for estrogen levels to return to normal. Probably most important is having a good experience with the new baby & an understanding & supportive mate. Positive expectations are helpful. The length of time can vary greatly.

Sex drive: Also if you are breastfeeding your sexual drive will be very low. Indeed this is a time where you need support and understanding.
