If the shoe fits?: You did not mention pain. That is probably the best thing. It is not unusual for twisting injuries to cause lon-term swelling. Your swelling appears to happen with certain shoes. Guess what? Stop wearing the shoes that are making it swell. Don't be so concerned about the x-rays at this point. If you had a serious injury involving bone you would more than likely have different symptoms.

If you got an : X-ray who ordered it? The person who ordered it should read it. The problem is an ankle injury may be soft tissue related and not bony. So while the bones need to be ax mined to rule out a fracture, that is not the end all in an exam. You can try an over the counter ankle brace but i could never recommend this in lieu of a proper exam.
