Outpatient: The surgical procedure can be done in 45 to 90 minutes. The time before surgery, and in the recovery room after surgery is about an hour each. Total time in facility/hospital is about 6 to 8 hours. About 3% of patients fail the outpatient model and spend the night. However, if you are feverish, or vomiting the diagnosis is acute cholecystitits, with 1 to 3 days in hospital.
