Pap test: The pap test is a simple collection of cell samples from the cervix or upper vaginal wall. It is read by a lab and tells about abnormal cells, precancerous changes, infection signs and hormone status. The pap test is a small part of a comprehensive pelvic examination. A gyn women's health specialist checks for many kinds of issues in examining the entire pelvic region.

It's possible: You could be in an office where a physician and registered nurse practitioner (arnp) are partners. It is possible that the arnp did your female exam. Officially, a registered nurse, cna, lnp, medical assistant, nor other licensed nurse-type is not the one who is allowed to do a pap and pelvic. Be sure to know who is doing procedures on you to make sure they are qualified to do so.

Sometimes.: There are times when the doctor does it and other times when the nurse does it depending on the size of the staff, the number of cases that day, and also if there might be rules in the place it is done as to who does it. It depends on where you go, and what they prefer.
