One of my molar roots fails to heal, so the endodontist suggested to amputate it after the 6th session. what does that mean?

Good idea: Back teeth have multiple roots. Often, if one rootis problematic, it can be removed (cut off) without affecting the long-term survival of the rest of the tooth. I have cases that have lasted for as long as 30 years.

Surgery: A root amp is like removing the weak link in a chain, preserving the chain. It is usually done on an upper molar that has 3 roots. The bad root is simply removed from the tooth and a 3 rooted tooth then becomes a 2 rooted tooth. Your dentist will know if this is appropriate for your tooth.

Root Amputation: Basically it means that he will cut just enough of the top of the tooth off to get to the root which is not healing and remove that part of the tooth and the root. Once that heals, then your general dentist can make a crown to fill the whole area to give you back full use of the tooth.
