A member asked:

I am on amoxicillin for a dental abscess, is it okay to pop it?

No: You may risk spreading the infection if you pop the abscess. Let the Amoxicillin work for a couple of days first. If it is still present and painful then your healthcare provider can perform an incision and drainage for you.

No: It is not recommended. If it does not spontaneous resolve it should be evaluated by a dental professional who may lance it or drain it if indicated.

Yes: If you apply heat via warm water rinses or on a cotton swab, then it should easily drain that visible abscess. Please see your endodontist.
