No: Your general dentist should be able to do that for you. If not, then find one who does tooth colored fillings on front and back teeth.

General dental probl: All dentists these days are trained to handle this. If you do not have a dentist, get a recommendation from your local dental society if you have a dentist, he will be glad to discuss details w/ you.

See a good Dentist: Any dentist can place composite fillings. The outcome is based on tooth structure remaining once the cavity is excavated, where the cavity is, color of composite as determined by the dentist and or assistant, and your tooth's response to the new filling afterwards. A "cosmetic" dentist is a dentist who advertises as such.

No.: A general dentist should have the knowledge and experience to do this. To be very exact with you, cosmetic dentistry at this time is not a recognized specialty. Any dentist can say they are a cosmetic dentist.....

No: Tooth colored bonded fillings also known as composite fillings are a routine procedure that any general dentist is trained to do and does on a daily basis. There is no recognized dental specialty as "cosmetic dentist", although some may promote themselves as one.

No: Any dentist can place composite fillings, but not all are comfortable with the newest materials and procedures. Make sure whichever dentist you choose takes substantial continuing education in the newest materials so your teeth aren't sensitive when they're done.

No: Most general dentists use composite fillings--especially if they are younger. Some older dentists aren't comfortable with the material however. Call and ask your dentist over the phone if they place posterior composites regularly before scheduling.

No: Amalgam fillings are always placed in back teeth. If your existing amalgam fillings are failing and have to be replaced, any general dentist can do that. Cosmetic dentists can also take care of that problem for you, but they focus more on making your front teeth healthy and beautiful...hence the name "cosmetic." Back teeth generally don't have to be beautiful to function comfortably and properly.
