Examination: To be sure but it could be a ruptured mucocoele which is a small swelling full of blocked output from a minor salivary gland. Once ruptured it might present as you describe but the wisest course is to get it looked at.

It could be anything: One thing that comes to mind is pharyngitis, which could be caused be any numebr of things including strep throat for example.

Mucocele: It could be many things from autoimmune to a herpes virus infection. Also, it could be a mucocele. A mucocele is a saliva filled blister due to a clogged salivary duct. Humans, in addition of having major salivary glands, have tiny salivary glands all over the skin (mucosa) covering the inside of the mouth. If one of those glands clogs, one develop a mucocele. They come and go.
