A member asked:

I've been diagnosed with a large gallbladder sludge. what is cholecstomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cholecystectomy?: The gallbladder stores bile, which helps digest fats. Sometimes the contents of the gallbladder become thickened and contain more than just bile, and this is referred to as sludge. Like gallstones, this thickened material can block the gallbladder's duct and cause pain or infection. Assuming you meant cholecystectomy, this is the medical word for surgical removal of the gallbladder.
