Shouldn't be Black: In the absence of any medication, your stools should never be black. That usually indicates that there is blood from the upper GI tract coming out in your stool(melena). You probably need to get checked out right away. Some meds like pepto-bismol can cause black stools but you probably shouldn't be on that anyway.
