Stay vigilant: Gastrointestinal infections often cause bloody mucus in the stools, but other potentially more serious conditions like colitis, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer may cause the same bloody mucus. Keep a close observation, should it persists or repeats itself, have a colorectal examination.
