A member asked:

I am 21wks pregnant and had an ultrasound this past thursday. the tech said that the placenta was transverse. what does this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

?: Transverse is not usually a description given to the placenta. It is normally used to describe the position of the baby and means the baby is lying sideways instead of positioned head up (breech) or head down. At 21 weeks the position of the baby is not important.
