Yes: Ear infections can progress and cause significant problems. Outer ear infections usually are treated with antibiotic drops. They can be quite troublesome and can bet very serious if one has diabetes. Middle ear infections are usually treated with oral antibiotics. Sometimes, they require incision and drainage of the ear drum.
