A member asked:

What is the half-life of prednisone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Short-acting drug: Prednisone itself has a half-life of about an hour, but it is converted in the body to prednisolone, which lasts about a day. Some people either lack or have lower activity of the enzyme that converts prednisone, and it is a less effective medication in those people. For that reason, some doctors prescribe methyprednisolone (medrol), which is more bioavailable, and also lasts about a day.
