Type of cortisone: I agree with dr aditi - it is a strong corticosteroids, that is a very good anti-inflammatory medication, but has to be used wisely because thaere are very serious side effects. You need to beware of both the good and the side effects of this medication and use it only where necessary. There is more than one type of corticosteroid and they are not interchangable. Risks are many.

A short course (5-7days) is often used to assist your hormone response as an anti-inflammatory to avoid prolonged symptoms. Prolonged use can suppress the immune system & should be avoided. Antihistamines can be beneficial if the issue is histamine based but will replicate all the benefits of the steroid.
