See Osteopathic Dr.: Lots of poss causes:tumors, tight muscles, meningitis, vertebral problems, torn tendons & ligaments, etc. If it's short-term, new onset w/ no fever or other symptoms-try otc pain relievers like Motrin and add heat/stretching. Otherwise, an osteopathic dr, is trained like an md to know all the other disease causes, but is also trained to do a hands-on exam to find/fix muscle/skeletal causes.

Spine specialist: Aside from excruciating neck pain that would require an emergency visit to the er, get a thorough evaluation by a spine specialist. A physiatrist or anesthesiologist with fellowship spine/pain training is a great option. If surgery is found to be likely needed, they can refer to a orthopedic spine surgeon or neurosurgeon.
