Many: Lithium, depakote, olanzapine, which helps with severe or psychotic depression, aripiprazole, risperidone, ziprasidone, Clozapine (should be used infrequently), some ssri's & Lamotrigine (watch out for serious rash), which seems to be more effective for depressive than manic symptoms. Always consult w/ prescribing doc before changing/adding meds since BP is a serious disorder.

Mood stabilizer: Most common are lithium, depakote, or lamictal. Seroquel and Abilify (aripiprazole) are also used. Many other options if side effects or inadequate response to any of these. Antidepressants may cause mania if given alone without mood stabilizer, but are often given along with a mood stabilizer. Unfortunately all medications have potential side effects and is always risk vs benefit. Compliance is crucial.
