What would you recommend, abilify (aripiprazole) or effexor for major depressive disorder?

Mejor Depression: If after comprehensive history, family history, and mental status exam I am convinced this is truly major depressive d/o (not bipolar depression) then first choice would be an antidepressant (like effexor) rather than an antipsychotic (abilify). However, there are also many other possible treatments for major depressive d/o -- so choices are not limited to effexor, (venlafaxine) or even pharmaceuticals at all.
