Achilles tendinitis: I am assuming the bump is on the back of the heel at the insertion of the achilles tendon. If so it could be related to spurring as well. X-rays are in order. A heel lift could be helpful, as well as gradual stretching. Sometimes an injection into the sub achilles bursa is helpful. Never inject cortisone into a tendon. It could be other things. Visit a podiatrist for proper evaluation.

See below: It depends where the bump is. It is on the back of the heel then your pain is due to the pulling of the achilles tendon. Put a 1/4 lift in the heel of your shoes to take pressure of the tendon. You may want to see a podiatrist for evaluation.

? bursitis or spur: If the pain is on the back of the heel, a bone spur or a bursitis may be the cause. Let your doctor or podiatrist evaluate it.
