A member asked:

Why does my throat hurt more when i lay down/sleep? wake up in pain and coughing. i have been doctoes and said it was a viral throat infection .

Reflux may be cause: Some throat pain, hoarseness, and spasmodic coughs are caused by ge reflux. This occurs when the highly acidic contents of the stomach slosh up into the less-protected esophagus - and higher. Because this is more likely to occur when you lie down, it's worth considering. Try not to eat late in the evening. Avoid alcohol, chocolate, heavy or fatty meals; see if it makes a difference. Talk to doctor.
