Find cause of cough: Rather than suppress a cough, the best way to deal with a cough is to identify the reason for the cough and treat that. The 4 main reasons for an ongoing cough are 1, asthma 2 allergies, 3 sinus infection and 4 stomach acid reflux. There are other serious reasons for a cough--if it persists, chest x-ray and doctor visit can pinpoint cause and best treatment can be given.
