Individual variation: Everybody is different (thank goodness) and can respond differently to meds. (Otherwise there would be only one drug for each disease). Cough and cold meds don't really work, generally, and can even make you worse. Cold-eez is the only form of zinc shown to help with the common cold. Simple measures are best!

Depends: Everything depends because some people may take medicines that are appropriate and some may not. Considering cough syrup a dry cough will probably not respond to guaifensin that is in most cough syrups. A wet cough may be broken down by guaifensin, Anything with Guafensin and Dextrometorphan would be my suggestion for stuffy head, wet cough. Please get checked if there is concern
