5% false negatives!: Five percent of the population has false negative anas, anas without a disease. Lupus is very mildly herditable, and it is much more likely that you would not have/get it. I would not worry, unless sx develope and more definivite tests for lupus show up. I would get checked for systemic lupus erythematosus again, one year from now.

Needs monitoring: Yes.You could have positive ANA without any symptoms.However you are at high risk for developing lupus as you have strong family history.Your doctor should monitor for any symptoms of lupus.
