Melatonin: It was designed for temporary use but can be used long term. It is more likely to be successful if combined with good sleep hygiene. 1. Keep a regular bedtime & wakening time (to include weekends). Get up the same time each day, regardless of what time you fell asleep. 2. Make a regular, relaxing bedtime routine. Relaxing rituals prior to bedtime may include a warm bath or shower, aroma therapy.

It appears so: Hi. I've seen a wide range of clinical effectiveness between individuals, but I know of no data to suggest it's not safe to take every night. Melatonin seems to be very safe.
