Sinusitis: Sinusitis is simply infection in the facial sinuses. Chronic sinusitis is infection that lasts more than 4-12 weeks despite treatment. It is often very difficult to treat even with antibiotics. Often doctors will not treat acute sinus infections long enough (up to 4 weeks of continuous antibiotic) and as a result a partially treated or inadequately treated acute infection becomes chronic.
