Can dry socket last more than two weeks in a healthy person?

Yes: Dry socket needs to be treated with medication that will help the healing process. Usually it will gradually get better, but it can take time. Many times the dentist will place medications into the socket and this needs to be repeated. Being a healthy person will always help healing.

Not typically: A dry socket can be treated by a dentist by placing medication into the socket to reduce\eliminate the pain and induce healing. An infection can complicate the healing process. It may take multiple visits for relieve and healing and can last from days to weeks. This needs to be monitored by the dentist until no longer necessary.

Yes: Dry socket will persist until the bone is totally covered by soft tissue and this can take longer is some people. Usually 2 weeks is the upper limit. Check to see if is healing correctly if its been longer than 2 weeks because it could be something else.

Maybe: You need to be followed by the dentist that did the extraction to monitor your discomfort & healing. If you are still in pain or pain has returned, you may need new dressing. Check in with your doc.
