My 11 year old daughter has scoliosis and just started with a night brace. can a chiropractor also help with her scoliosis?

Some: Chiropractic adjustment might give temporary relief of any pain that she may have but it would not prevent the progression nor reverse it. They would be effective in helping you to monitor the progression if any and refer you to an orthopedic surgeon should this become necessary.

Scoliosis: Scoliosis is caused by one or more of the vertebrae (bones of the spine) growing a little thicker on one side than the other, which tilts the bones above it to the side. It is not a problem with spinal 'alignment, ' and chiropractic adjustments will not change how the bones grow. The brace will slow or stop the progression of the curve. Please encourage your daughter to wear it consistently.

No: Chiropractic manipulation has never been proven to reverse true scoliosis. The various bends of the back caused by muscle spam, maybe. If your child needs a brace determined by a qualifiied pediatric orthopedist, do not waste your time.

Not really: A chiro offers a deep massage which might help your daughter if she has some discomfort. But chiro has absolutely nothing to offer to help the scoliosis and if she is using a brace, is probably being seen by an orthopod who can advise you. Physical therapy is a better option for true relief.
