Generally NOT...: Most of my patients say it feels better after the surgery than it did before. The discomfort is usually easily handled by otc products like aleve (naproxen) or advil.

No.: Generally, once the ingrown nail is removed, you have much less pain. The doctor will numb your toe for the procedure, and afterward, it's like having a splinter removed--as soon as the pressure is gone, it starts feeling better immediately!

No: The needle stick of numbing medication is brief and temporary sensation. Afterwards, you'll be numb to the surgery and post-surgery, once the feeling comes back, you'll be sore but less painful then ingrown nail pain.

Ingrown nail: It has been my experience that the post op pain is less than before , meaning you may even take nothing. Speak to your surgeon , but i recommend tylenol (acetaminophen) to start due to low interactions and because nsaids can mask cardinal signs of infection.
