Resist: Best not to stick a coat hanger or any other object inside to itch the wound. However the itching may indicate an allergic reaction to the dressing or the topical wound care product that may have been applied to the wound. Would advise you to discuss this with your doctor as soon as you can.

Simple: Leave it alone and go see your doctor to evaluate the wound.

Treat the cause: As wounds heal, the inflammation may cause increased sensation which can be interpreted as pain, numbness and itching. Scratching the wound can cause more damage to it so this is not a good idea. Use of an anti-itch medicine such as benadry, Atarax (hydroxyzine) or something stronger is probably the best idea though use of a topical anti-itch on adjacent skin will help. Avoid steroids.
