It depends.: This depends on the type of tumor being checked for. Some, like ovarian cancer have tumor markers that can be checked, but they must be combined with other tests. Others have antigens, like psa or prostate specific antigen for prostate cancer, that can be measured, but they can be high in other conditions, like hyperplasia of the prostate, or can even be low in cancer. Others have no marker.
