Bruising Below: In pediatric patients of this age group it is very common to see bruising to the anterior legs (shins) and thigh areas. These are often caused by an active child exploring and playing in their world. Frequently they trip and fall, run into objects or strike themselves with toys or other objects which result in the bruising. Most bruises are in various stages of resolution (color) and harmless.

Contact surfaaces: Bruising over those body surfaces that are in front, and are therefore first to contact random obstacles for a busy kid are usually normal.Knee to ankle along shins, and forearm are most often affected.Soft body surfaces like the abdomen, sides, neck are seldom if ever part of this pattern and are cause for concern.
