ANTIPYRETICS: Most sore throats are viral, however some can be caused by strep. In most cases, sorethroats will resolve on their own without needing antibiotics. Fluids and tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen help. Warning signs that your fever and throat pain could be more serious include an asymmetric swelling in the back of your throat, a muffled "hot potato" voice, inability to swallow liquids leading to dehydration.
