A thorough history and exam is recommended to see if this presentation is merely a self limiting viral illness or something that needs more diagnostic testing, medications, or simple reassurance for your toddler. Don't forget to mention if there are any ill contacts with similar symptoms.

SEE A MEDICAL DOCTOR: Your son's immune system is shot and the infection he got has infected his gums. Please have the child see a medical doctor to find out what infection he has and to be put on the proper medication immediately.

Two: Your son needs 2examinations NOW. See Pediatritian to asses throat, fever, risk of dehydration, etc. at 20 months your child is 8 months past due for his 1st Dental examination. Call a Pediatric Dental Specialist to evaluate gums, teeth, etc. You need to see both experts ASAP.
