No: Parents of a normal newborn should not worry while the baby sleeps. A baby should be placed face-up in a bassinet or crib, after feeding/burping/changing. There is not much time in between newborn feedings, so when the baby is sleeping, the parents can do errands (daytime) or sleep (nighttime). Otherwise, parents will become sleep-deprived, making them accident-prone and ill-tempered.

Safe environment: Making a safe sleep environment for your baby will help lessen your worries. To do so, put your baby to sleep on their back on a firm mattress in their crib. Do not add any bumpers, blankets or pillows. Do not smoke. Its fine to check on your baby periodically, but remember that babies are loud sleepers an noises do not always mean they are awake!
