Chewing gum in pregnancy is it safe?

Yes. : Yes gum is safe . Don't over do it. Brush frequently to avoid cavities. Do not do xylitol gum as research is still undecided on safety during pregnancy and breast feeding.

Great Question- #1: I have never been asked that question before. I would not think that chewing gum can be unsafe during pregnancy, but sugarless gum, with some of the additives, may pose a problem, depending on philosophy of your doctor. Also, during pregnancy, the gums around your teeth tend to swell and if you have had some morning sickness, acidity can decay the teeth.

Great question- #2: Chewing gum excessively, especially if not chewing equally on both the right and left sides of the mouth, can possibly lead to some tmj/tmd issues. So try and not overdo it.
