Yes and yes: The most effective treatment for allergic rhinitis is nasal steroid sprays such as flonase, qnasl, nasonex, veramyst, rhinocort, etc. They do take a few days at least to reach peak effectiveness. The medications that will work the quickest are the antihistamine pill such as zyrtec (cetirizine), Claritin (loratadine), Allegra (fexofenadine), etc. Avoid Benadryl (diphenhydramine) due to drowsy side effects.
