Physical exam or MRI: It may be time to see your friendly neighborhood orthopedic surgeon! a simple examination can point toward a retear, and an MRI can confirm it. Many tears limit how much your knee can bend and will hurt the most at the limit of bending. A lateral meniscus may also hurt more with the knee bent and at your side. Kneeling may also make these symptoms worse.

Knee pain: Best approach would be to have a repeat MRI of your knee; if there is no swelling in your knee the study can be enhanced with an intra-articular dye injection.
