TROUBLE !!!!!!!!!!!: If you have been advised that you need root canal therapy on one of your teeth, you have 3 options: 1-have it done and save the tooth; 2- have the tooth extracted or 3- do nothing, in which case the tooth will eventually cause you either excruciating pain and\or will become infected causing severe swelling, destroying bone and possibly spreading to other parts of your body. That can kill you.

Abscess: Neglecting to get a root canal when indicated may cause serious damage and infection to the nerves and vessels inside the tooth. Without treatment, infection will eventually spread, bone around the tooth will begin to degenerate, and the tooth may fall out.

Infection persists: A root canal is most commonly indicated for a tooth with caries that extends to the pulp of the tooth. This means the bacteria has spread to the inside of the tooth and the infection now needs to be removed and cleaned out by way of root canal. If you don't get the riot canal the infection will remain, the pulp will become necrotic and you will be at risk for an abscess. It's a risk basically.

Infection Persists: Root canal treatment is a process used to eliminate a bacterial infection from your tooth. If you already have an infection an do not have it treated the infection will persist. Sometimes this infection will become more intense and at other times it will become chronic. Some infections cause bone breakdown and can lead to the loss of the tooth. Best to visit a dentist and get the specifics.

It's not good...: There is a valid reason for getting the root canal procedure done. It may be for treating an infection. It may be for adding support for a crown. It may be needed for treating pain. These are the most common reasons. In each case, without getting the root canal procedure done, compromise exists. Pain, swelling, infection, and failing dental work my occur.
