A member asked:

Before i knew i needed a root canal i went in to my dentist for extraction of both lower molars. he told me if he pulled one, the other would break. will i be able to get my second molar extracted after my root canal and crown on my first molar?

I do not advocate having the other tooth extracted unless it is absolutely necessary. Do everything possible to retain the tooth in question. It is best to keep your teeth. This way, there won’t be any broken tooth.

If your dentist has any doubts about damaging the adjacent tooth during an extraction, get a referral to an oral surgeon for the extraction. Once the extraction is completed and the area has healed, then go about treating the other molar.
