A member asked:

Could the dentist have caused one of my teeth to turn black?

Doubtful: The only thing i can think of here is if a large amalgam (silver) filling was placed in the tooth, it can stain the tooth over time. Teeth that have had root canals can also discolor over time, though this is usually a slow process. Decay could also discolor the tooth, but that's what your dentist is trying to fix!

No: A darkened tooth can be caused by decay, large silver fillings, or a tooth that is non-vital (nerve inside tooth has died). Many teeth will also darken following root canal therapy. Speak to your local dentist as to the cause of your problem and the treatment options available to make that tooth white again.
