What can i take for my tooth pain?

OTC med/see dentist: While otc meds may get you by, toothache usually means that there is something wrong with your teeth/gums. Only your dentist can take care of the problem and possibly prescribe stronger meds. Do not delay because. Dental problems get worse over time.

Headache meds: Whatever otc pain reliever that you normally take when you have a headache should work for a short while. You will need to see a dentist asap to take care of that tooth before the pain increases.

Why does it hurt?: If you recently had dental work, call your dentist. If you didn't, call your dentist. Like a splinter in your finger, dental pain exists because there is a problem. Would you take pain medication and antibiotics to manage the splinter? Not likely: you would take it out! solve the problem. Take fewer meds & be well :-).

Dental pain usually caused by infection of tooth/teeth and/or supporting gums/bone. Analgesic (pain killer) will not cure, only mask symptoms as infection grows and spreads. Best OTC Ibuprofen (as per pkg directions) to support you until you can be seen by Dentist to address the cause of your pain. Dental infections do not self-heal. Please call Dentist for treatment.

See dentist: The best thing to take is a visit to your dentist to have the tooth evaluated to determine what is causing the pain, and most important of all, treatment options to eliminate the pain. Until you see the dentist, ibuprofen, Tylenol, (acetaminophen) aspirin or Aleve can be used.

See dentist: Many causes of tooth pain, so need to get to the source of the discomfort and not treat the symptoms.
