Yes it might work: it is one of the antibiotic choices for this problem. Please provide follow up in one week to see if it worked. You will also need to see a dentist as this problem is likely due to a cavity in your tooth and it will require dental work ASAP before it becomes a bigger problem.

Better yet...: ... call a dentist for an appointment. Antibiotics DO NOT cure tooth problems. If you have an abscess caused by gum problems or a non-vital tooth, the condition needs to be physically treated by a dentist. Antibiotics will ease the symptoms but will not magically fix the tooth.
