It can be: The face haws may nerves that are a short distance from the brain, an infection can affect the whole side of your face, causing swelling, pain, headaches, discomfort and numbness if it gets too close to an area by a nerve. The danger is that if left untreated the infection can easily spread into the brain area and cause extreme damage. Call your dentist now or go to the er.

No: If your face is swelling and you are becoming numb in the tissues your infection is significant. I would seek help right away to resolve this concern! check in with your dentist.

Facial nerve: Facial nerve may be compress as swelling occurs, which may lead to numbness or paresthesia(altered sensation).
