How does a white blood transfusion work?

Rare: It is rare to have a white blood cell transfusion. White blood cells only live in the blood stream for a few hours and transfusions of white blood cells are more likely to cause fever. If you have low white blood cells, you are usually given a medication that stimulates production of white blood cells by your bone marrow.
